CHALLENGE

The Coding Train generated a lot of content through the years. With a pending, new website launch a lot of it was inconsistent and confusing for users.

SOLUTION

Pulled and edited content from previous website to clarify the voice and style of the Coding Train.

MY ROLE

  • Audited existing copy, kept what was necessary and drafted new copy
  • Created a content style guide for future collaborators working on anything content related for the Coding Train
  • Collaborated with designer, engineers and founder onT content strategy

About Page Copy

The first iteration of the About page only highlighted the Coding Train’s founder, Dan Shiffman. While the website is for creative coding enthusiasts, it also functions as Dan’s personal website. I edited the existing copy and drafted new content to include both information about Dan and the website. We landed on copy that emphasized a friendly tone that turns slightly informal when talking about the website.

404 Page Copy

The Coding Train has a large community outside of its popular YouTube channel. Because of this, we wanted to mitigate any confusion on content that existed in the old website while navigating the latest website. A 404 page that is consistent with the voice of The Coding Train was essential to have. I edited the first iteration to be playful and alleviate frustration, while still taking the error seriously. We landed on copy that included links to important pages where the information a user might need is located.
